Brazil joined this Tuesday, 11, the Haiti Reconstruction Fund, created in the International Conference of Donors for Haiti (New York, on March 31 of 2010) and will be the first country to effectuate financial contribution to the Fund, in the value of US$ 55 millions.
Of this total, US$ 40 millions are referring to Brazilian resources from the ‘Program Brazil – Unasur’, which works together with the ‘Decision of Solidarity of the Unasur with Haiti’.
The ‘Decision’ was adopted in Quito, on February 9, and confirmed in presidential meeting alongside the Summit of the Latin-American and Caribbean Unity (Cancun, February 23).
The remaining US$ 15 millions will be transferred by Brazil to offer directly help to the budget of the government of Haiti.
With the objective to support the ‘Plan of Action for the Recuperation and the Development of Haiti’, presented by the Haitian Government, the Reconstruction Fund will reunite contributions of different donors and will have the World Bank as trust agent.
Its activities will be administered by a Director Committee, which will be chaired by a representative of the Government of Haiti and integrated by a group of donors, and among them is Brazil.
The activities of administration, control and accountability of the Fund will be executed in accordance with the current parameters in practice of the World Bank.
