Ecuador, country that chairs the Union of the South American Nations (UNASUR), wants a meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Relations of the Latin America to discuss the situation of Honduras.
According to the Ecuadorian chancellor, Ricardo Patiño, the meeting intends to discuss a viable formula to the re-entry of Honduras in the Organization of the American States (OAS), of where it was expelled in June of last year.
There isn’t date or place for the meetings yet, but Patiño assured that Honduras will be able to be reinstated if the current president Porfírio Lobo shows disposition to judge the responsible ones for the coup d´etat that withdrew Manuel Zelaya in 2009.
For the Ecuadorian chancellor, Honduras needs to change to show that it respects the democracy.
“The worse they can leave for the future of the Latin America is the impunity”, he affirmed.
According to him, “the coups d´etat of the second half of last century constitute sufficient teaching so that they don´t happen again, but it happened again last year in Honduras and we have to be very tough, and all the other countries too, with this theme”.
