Iran: two weights and two measures

Iran: two weights and two measures

Marcelo Rech

Not only the United States and allies bet on the Turkish-Brazilian failure in make an agreement with Iran.

Also the most of the Brazilian media stuck their criticism without thinking twice.

To join in the “easy speech” is one of the many traditions of the national journalism.

The great majority preferred to follow exactly what the news produced in the United States and in Europe was saying.

Many analyses (?) were insolently conducted with the purpose of showing that Brazil hadn´t committed a mistake, but a stupidity.

People who don’t even know in which continent is Iran suddenly are called to discuss the geopolitics of the Middle East.

They don´t contribute with a serious discussion.

And a serious discussion about that region implicates to require that Israel shows respect to the resolutions of the UN and to the International Right, inclusive humanitarian.

A serious debate can separate the rhetoric of a lunatic of the concrete and objective fact.

It isn´t of these days that the Ministry of Foreign Relations places itself above the good and the evil.

Equally, it isn´t a novelty that is an obsession of president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva his intention of being recognized as an unquestionable world leader, even that has turned in ridiculous actions very often.

These are facts.

Even so, the Brazilian decision of working for an agreement is positive.

It doesn´t matter if it has been a result of simple vanity.

“Having turn and voice” in the international scenery implicates in assuming promises.

One of the messages that reach the rest of the world is: ancient problems demand new actors.

The traditional negotiators failed. Be it for incompetence, be it because Iran really ignores the pleas.

The North American foreign politics of Barack Obama changed just a little, or maybe nothing, if compared to the administration of George W. Bush.

A false partnership was offered to the world, including to the Latin America.

In a practical way, the North American interests prevail, and also the interests of their allies.

On basis of this premise the United States acts.

And it doesn´t suit to discuss the personality of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

To Iran, new and more reliable actors offered an opportunity to reveal their intentions.

Those who defend the isolation of nations like Iran, North Korea and Sudan, punish, in fact, the populations that have nothing to do with their leaders.
