Russia delivered to Ecuador two helicopters Mi-171E for troops transport and predicts to hand over other four helicopters that are being negotiated between the two countries.
The aircrafts are part of the military agreement secured on 2009.
The helicopters will be piloted by Ecuadorian officials trained in Russia.
The military agreement signed by both countries is inserted in the context of the Strategic Alliance that, up to 2014, will represent a Russian investment in Ecuador of US$ 2.5 billions.
Of this total, US$ 200 millions will be destined to the purchase of means of transport for the Armed Forces, which include helicopters, trucks, ambulances and firemen´s cars.
President Rafael Correa describes the relation of Ecuador with Russia as “historical”.
This is the first time that the Russian state company of armaments Rosoboronexport markets equipments with Ecuador.
