South American Council of Defense discusses military strategy of the USA

This Tuesday, delegates of the 12 countries that integrate the Union of the South American Nations (Unasur) meet in Ecuador to discuss the subjects that will be in the agenda of the vice-Ministers of Defense of the block, who have meeting in Quito on July 14 and 15.

At least six subjects will be treated by the South American Council of Defense.

The delegates recalled the situation of the proceedings relative to the Measures of Incitement of the Confidence and Security, approved by the Ministers of Defense and pendant of approval by the ministries of Foreign Relations.

They will also have access to the conclusions of the Workgroup created to develop a methodology capable to grant transparency to the expenses with Defense material by the countries of the region.

The South American Council of Defense intends still to approve of a proposal for the establishment of its Constant Technical Secretary and to inform about the second meeting of the Workgroup in charge of preparing the Protocol of Peace, Security and Cooperation in the context of the Unasur.

Besides, they must approve a recommendation so that the opening of the ‘Center of Strategic Studies of Defense of the CDS’ is included in the agenda of the Ninth  Conference of American Ministers of Defense, which will happen in November, in Bolivia.

Finally, they will discuss the conclusions of the Workgroup responsible for the analysis of the “Global Strategy of Support Bases, White Book of the Command of Air Mobility of the United States”, which supports the use of Latin-American military bases.
