The Chief of Navy Operations of the United States, Admiral Gary Roughead, will visit Brazil on August 9th to meet with authorities from the Brazilian Navy. During the visit, Admiral Roughead will discuss bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest with his Brazilian colleagues, including maritime security, cooperation with South Atlantic African partner nations, and security at World Cup and Olympic events.
As the two most populous democracies in the Americas, the United States and Brazil share many common interests and work together closely at all levels. The United States continues to place a high priority on ts relationship with Brazil, and maritime cooperation is an important component of the broader bilateral partnership.
During his visit, Admiral Roughead will be honored with the Order of Naval Merit. The Order of Naval Merit was established by the Navy of the Republic of Brazil on July 11, 1934 to honor distinguished civil, national, and foreign naval service to Brazil.
Admiral Roughead will participate in a joint press conference with the Commander of the Brazilian Navy Admiral Julio Soares de Moura Neto on August 9th.
